You might be inclined to think that you are looking at a handful of vegetables. But what you are seeing is much more than that.
The photo above is the reason my son was tardy to school last week.
We were ready to leave the house on time until we realized that one of our garden trellises had fallen over in some strong wind. We looked at each other, silently asking the same question. Him: Can I delay my school arrival to go out and tend to the garden? Me: Can I let him receive (another) tardy in order to go out and spend time in the garden?
We reached the same conclusion: YES!
Our goal was to just “fix the trellis”, but as anyone who gardens knows, it’s not possible to walk among the plants and only do one thing. Soon we found ourselves digging up potatoes, snapping off fresh green beans, and excitedly celebrating a ripe tomato. Growing food feels magical and miraculous. The earth is so generous.
What are the gardens you are tending? Your relationships? Your career? Your children? Your heart? Your spirit?
Can you give yourself permission to be tardy, in order to make space for that which gives you pleasure and joy?
